Weird Health Wednesdays: Pacemakers for Dogs & Brains, More Body Regrowth

Well.

My increasingly unreliable local Internet provider had problems all day long yesterday, and while I appreciate the way it gave me a four-day weekend instead of just three, I’m running way behind on work.

I do, however, still have weird links today.

This Dog Has a Pacemaker
Because I guess canines have cardiac problems and this aptly named dog, The Unsinkable Molly Brown–Molly for short–is not just your average pet. She’s a search-and-rescue dog, too, perhaps explaining why her owners had a surplus of offers to pay for the procedure and travel.

More Pacemakers, Only For Your Brain
This is deep-brain stimulation to treat really hardcore depression, but it’s still experimental.

We All Know Working Out Too Much Can Be a Bad Thing
Particularly if you throw steroids into the mix. Here’s a pretty intense photo gallery of anabolic steroid overuse–that’s the bad kind, not the corticosteroids like fluticasone propionate or prednisone.

Remember Growing Your Own Limbs & Organs?
Now the CNN says the Pentagon’s pursuing the regenerative powder made from pig bladders, too. Plus, I learned it has a kicky new nickname: pixie dust.
