Face Transplants Increasingly a Reality
I use the term *weird* rather loosely in this feature, as you’ve no doubt realized, and I’d qualify this link as more amazing than strange. The BBC reports on a Lancet article about two successful facial transplants. One of the operations involved transplantation of the lip, nose, skin, muscle, and–a first–actual bone. Check out the very graphic photos in the BBC’s gallery to see the remarkable changes.

Stem Cells, Only Without the Controversy
Japan announced the creation of stem cells from the frozen wisdom teeth (for 3 years!) of a 10 year-old girl. It took just over a month for cells extracted from the teeth to develop into stem cells, and the discovery should enable more disease research without the use of human embyros.
