A Beach Thanksgiving, Plus Lung News

When you last tuned into Asthma Mom, you found me whining about my neverending move to Denver, the real estate non-market, and AG’s sketchy gastrointestinal tract on top of her spazzy lungs.

I feel much(!) better because of my blogging break last week, and after spending the Thanksgiving holiday with my kids I feel even better with school back in session today.

Not that the stress ended with my little blog vacation, mind you. I spent the day before Thanksgiving high-strung and hectic, trying to get everything prepped and ready for Thursday’s holiday dinner even though I was only cooking for the girls, my mom, and me.

Wednesday evening, though, as AG and her Steadfast Sidekick took a shower and I desperately needed a glass of wine or four, I walked by the sliding glass door in my Florida room and saw this in my peripheral vision:

Which turned into this:

And finally, this:

I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned before that I’m not what anyone would call mellow, but a sky that gorgeous prompted me to calm down, sit at the table on my back deck, and watch the sun drop down behind the trees. That sunset didn’t erase my stress or change the current circumstances of my life, of course.

But, hot damn.

It’s a beautiful world sometimes, and I’m alive in it.

On Thursday, after Thanksgiving dinner we went to the beach. Because, y’all. It was 75 degrees here:

Which is too cold for swimming unless you’re a tourist from way up north since 75 degrees outside means the water itself hovers somewhere around the 65-degree mark. It’s perfect weather, however, for burying your little sister in the sand:

Or for walking along the shore to burn off all those turkey and stuffing calories while your children get ahold of your camera:

I hope all of you, both U.S. readers and non, had a fabulous week. For your asthma-related pleasure, here are lung headlines I missed during my break:

American Lung Association: Breaking News
Boston Globe: Asthma Rate Higher in U.S.-Born Blacks
Wall Street Journal: Generic Version of Pulmicort Respules Available in Late 2009

Thanksgiving on a beach. One of those things I just can’t comprehend. But it’s good to see you back in the saddle!

Ha, thanks. And don’t worry–the weather is so schizo in north Florida that the high today is a mere 56 degrees.

Glad you had a good Thanksgiving! What I wouldn’t give to be near some sand and surf and sunsets right now!

That sky was awesome. No wonder you felt better, and I’m sure your Thanksgiving dinner turned out to be delicious!
Glad you had a nice break and are back!

And yet the girls would trade their beach for your snow and ice in a second–especially this time of year.
