Crowdsourcing Health

A couple of websites harnessing the power of people’s health experiences online have popped up on my radar recently.

First, the Louisiana Bucket Brigade, is tracking health complaints (like asthma flares) associated with the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico with a crisis map. As some of you know, I moved to Colorado from the Gulf Coast in northwest Florida, and I still have family and friends there. So this one’s personal for me.

Next up, HealtheTreatment wants people to complete a brief, anonymous survey about their health issues, symptoms, and treatments. I tested this one out over the weekend, actually. Taking the survey is quick and painless and adds to the online body of knowledge about conditions like asthma, including stats on geography, medicine side effects, and symptoms.

Check ‘em out, and consider sharing your own health experiences, if applicable.
