Haha! A lot of those old PSAs are so hilariously bad, they make “This is your brain on drugs” look sensible and well thought-out.
Have you seen that old video, “duck and cover”? Or the old Disney wartime propaganda cartoons?
That booklet looks pretty much like what my parents used to tell me… they made sure I was quite well-educated on the ways that ordinary things can kill you… Being the kid I was, I didn’t take this as a “Don’t climb trees” or anything like that, but rather a “If you’re going to climb trees and cliffs, think your route out first, test the branches/handholds and make sure you don’t do anything too stupid!”
It may be wierd that I find those old things funny, but then, I have a bit of a morbid sense of humor (comes from having several family members in the medical field, I think – I absorbed the medical professional’s humor by osmosis).
Scariest. Safety book. Ever.
It reminds me of the square in the Snakes and Ladders board at my cabin with a kid in a cast in a hospital room and a fire behind him. Which, you know, was quite scary.
My other favorite from the site is the ice boxes=death traps one. So, so funny.
