I’d like to know which local school board official, when planning my county’s 2010-11 calendar, said “Oh, you know what would be really awesome? To give the kids their normal two weeks off but THEN, when all these families have spent far too much holiday time together already, let’s tack on two teacher planning days at the end so the kids don’t have to go back to school til Wednesday!”

I love my children. Immensely. Immeasurably. But I work from home, and it’s time for them to go back.

A few days after her return, AG ended up sick with the virus that circulated around Outdoor Lab. While Christmas was a relatively healthy one, she relapsed into a very bad case of bronchitis that kept her housebound all last week. Meaning we postponed our ski/snowboard trip until later this month and she spent those days frustrated, missing her friends, sick, and bored, on antibiotics and every-four-hour bronchodilators instead.

Meaning we spent the week between Christmas and New Year’s in that time-honored tradition of holidays and family quality time everywhere, slowly driving one another insane. We are all thoroughly sick of looking at one another.

And they’re All. Still. Home.

I’m one of those anti-resolution folks, anyway, but it’s hard even to think about a new year and a fresh start on this first Monday of 2011 since I’m still stuck in post-holiday limbo.

All this is to say: I haven’t forgotten Asthma Mom! AG recovered fully and still has an Outdoor Lab post planned, and if these three would ever return to their normal schedules then I could get back to mine, both on this blog and beyond.

What am I looking forward to in 2011?
I really don’t know yet.
Right now I’m just looking forward to Wednesday.

How about you guys? Got anything big planned this year?

My university fortunately changed things around at the last minute: the original plan was: University holidays on the 24, 27th and 28th, and another university holiday on Friday the 31st and today, Jan 3rd. So I’d arrive, attend Wed and Thurs, and then be off until Tuesday, which was just silly. Fortunately they realized that and gave us Wed and Thurs off and withdrew the 3rd as a university holiday instead. Works out much more sensibly (mind you, this is the same university that always starts Fall term on a Thursday, so how sensible the administration is is open to interpretation…).

It’s good that AG is feeling better, and hopefully Wednesday will come soon!

I hope she gets all better soon. I have been VERY thankful that mine hasn’t had anything serious recently. Oddly, I would love to be able to spend that much time with my AG, but I only get holidays plus some vacation days off. I’m actually quite sad after two 3 day weekends that I have to be away from her :-( I suspect I too would need a break if I was able to spend more than 3 hours/day Mon-Fri and the weekends with her.

I don’t start again till Wednesday either! And my cousin who is still in public high school doesn’t start till THURSDAY. At this point I’m BORED and wanna go back! [Though I’m looking forward to a day to myself with my parents outta the house tomorrow :) ]

And thank goodness I found another anti-resolution folk in you, Amy. I’m with you — though I do appreciate the “fresh start” appeal to a new year, you know?

Glad Miss AG is feeling better, lung infections SUCK, and I’m glad that she avoided the Evil Candy — that rocks.

Exactly. After all this time & w/everyone home but we couldn’t go into the mtns or anything b/c of the bronchitis, it’s just been BO-RING. And for me, impossible to get anything done. Have I mentioned, ever, how much I hate working from home?

Anyway, YES on the Evil Candy. She might be bored, but at least she’s not on prednisone!

I’m sorry you couldn’t avoid the winter holiday sickies…I was commenting to a friend that this is the first year in at least 4 that we haven’t been at the doctor, or ER for either Christmas or New Years…she’s still sick…but is holding her own for now.

I was so ready for the girls to go back…I wasn’t so ready to go back MYSELF, though.

Looking forward to your more regular posts!
